Free Children's Programs
Each of our interactive musical programs is 45 minutes long, presents a completely new theme each time, and takes place in an unusual setting within different Chicago neighborhoods. Future programs will feature woodwinds, brass, string instruments, an orchestra, and even an opera. An instrument "Petting Zoo" takes place one half hour before each program allowing the children to try out a violin, a cello, a viola, a piano and more. All of our programs are free and located near public transportation. Our last program "The Colors of Music" involved playing music of two compleltely different pieces of music, The children sat on the floor, received a piece of drawing paper and crayons and followed instructions to "draw how you feel" when they listened to these two distinctly different pieces. We also showed portions of Disney's "Fantasia" which featured the colors of music and "the sound wave".
Why Participate in Our Programs?
Lively Arts of Chicago's interactive classical music programs are free, performed by highly accomplished award winning young musicians and involve the audience in participatory activities. These programs are inspired by the absence of classical music education in most Chicago Public Schools.
Benefits of Our Programs
Studies show that students who are exposed to early music education develop stronger reading and math skills than those who have not had such an experience. Our interactive programs promote further awareness, understanding, and tolerance of cultural diversity and an appreciation of Classical music.
